March is almost here, and it’s that time of the year again when all the rockers get ready to put up their hands together for another Joy Bangla Concert, the biggest annual rock music extravaganza in Bangladesh.
So, why is everyone so excited about Joy Bangla Concert?
With one such event put on the platter every year since 2015, the Concert stands apart on two counts: one, its by far the biggest rock music event in Bangladesh in terms of both online and offline audience presence. On an average, around 35,000 fans attend the concert at the venue every year while millions watch on social, online and mainstream media, which is way above any other rock concert.
Two: Joy Bangla Concert brings all the big names and bands in the Bangladeshi rock and metal scene on the same stage, and what makes this even more exciting is that entry to the concert is absolutely free. All one needs is to do a simple registration on the Young Bangla website and collect a free entry pass.
There are yet more aspects to the Joy Bangla Concert that make it rise above just a musical event.
It’s organized on March 7 every year to relive the historic Racecourse speech that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered on this day in 1971. That speech united an entire nation to fight back against oppressions. Bangabandhu’s 7th-March speech is the ultimate source of inspiration to rise above all divisions and unite to achieve a collective national goal.
This event comes at a time when the entire world is in the middle of a fight against extremism and intolerance, and it’s important for a nation to make sure that nobody – especially the youth – does not indulge.
And what could be better than the spirit of unity and patriotism of 7th-March blended into rock music, which has always been a channel for youth to express themselves.
Young Bangla, a unique network of Bangladeshi youth, leverages this mega congregation of youth to rekindle the spirit of the great War of Liberation. Every year, the bands recreate and perform one song each from the Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, the rebel radio station that kept up the morale of the freedom fighters and also the countrymen in 1971. Many of the leading bands that perform regularly at Joy Bangla Concert have included these Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra songs in their albums as well.
Leading local rock and metal bands like Warfaze, Cryptic Fate, Nemesis, Arbovirus, Shunno and Lalon have performed in all the three concerts organized so far. The stage is all set again for the 2018 edition of Joy Bangla Concert, to be organized again at the Army Stadium, Dhaka – the venue for all the three concerts so far.
Like in the past, entry is free again this year as well. Rock fans will have to do a simple registration on the Young Bangla website with national ID card, mobile phone number and email address to grab their free entry passes. The registration window is mostly likely to open on March 1 and remain open until March 6.
