Young Bangla, one of the biggest youth platforms in Bangladesh, has successfully finished the three-and-a-half-month registration phase of the Joy Bangla Youth Award 2017.
Thanks to sincere hard work and innovative inputs from the divisional coordination teams – comprising winners of JBYA 2015 and local-level volunteers – during district and campus activation programs, Young Bangla has received applications from an impressive 1,300 youth-led organizations from different corners of the country. Some of these organizations have been in operation for more than two decades, working with grassroots communities in fields such as community, cultural and sports development.
Volunteer teams, led by JBYA 2015 winners, staged a total of 75 activation programs at 40 district headquarters and 31 educational institutions around the country. During these activation programs, they stuck posters, distributed leaflets, screened Young Bangla and JBYA-2017 related audio-visual materials to make people aware about the platform, its works and initiatives and the Joy Bangla Youth Award. The local teams also made one volunteers’ team for each district.
In August-September 2017, employees of Centre for Research and Information (CRI), secretariat of Young Bangla, will scrutinize the applications, make a shortlist and pay field visits to observe the activities of the shortlisted organizations to come up with the final list of 64 winners.
The Joy Bangla Youth Award 2017 award function is scheduled to be held on October 21-23 in Dhaka. The name of winners for this edition of the ward will be announced during that program. Like in the past, Young Bangla is planning to involve them – the winners of JBYA 2015 and 2017 – again with a series of social and community development works in the coming months.
