The biggest tech-entrepreneurial celebration of Bangladesh, ‘Microsoft – Young Bangla Summit_2018’ witnessed the youth making a mark in history with their ideas and innovations on October 3-6, 2018 at The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
In the modern era of evolving technology youth cannot be too much depended on traditional jobs after more than a decade of long academic education that doesn’t allows to innovate through breaking the patterns. With an objective to empower the youth of Bangladesh and prepare them for the uncertainty of technology in future job market, World’s most renowned tech-giant Microsoft Joined hands with the country’s largest youth network Young Bangla in 2015.
After three successful years of this partnership this event marked the completion of phase-1 targets.
The summit kicked off with the ‘Microsoft – Young Bangla Internship Program’ for the September – 2018 batch where more than 1000 university students across the country applied and 650 Students got enrolled in the opportunity.
On October 3, 2018 a day long workshop held on solving real life problems using/innovating latest technologies. On the session participants were directed in to the path how innovation and ideas usually evolves over time in slow hunches. They learned to target the blue oceans, finding new business ideas and untouched markets to empower with development of a Minimum viable product and through lean startup methodology beat all kinds of misconceptions of conventional approaches that led them into dead end. The session mostly focused on the things our youth needs to start their own business and all kind of wrong decisions they usually takes regarding their innovation.
On October 4, 2018 another day long sessions brought the business world upon the participants. Interns learned and practiced Market Evaluation of their own ideas, the difference between Business Models and Revenue Models with renowned examples. The session also showed the types of customers in the market and how strategic decisions for sales and marketing can make the competition irrelevant as well as innovation. The session ended with some precious directions on how to pitch a business idea in minimum words and minimum numbers of slides.
On October 5, 2018 more than 220 ideas were pitched by the interns from this batch where top 10 got the opportunity to join previously selected top 10 from March-2018 batch and pitch on stage on the summit day.
The Microsoft Young Bangla Summit took place on October 6, 2018 where all the stakeholders, partners, interns, campus ambassadors, trainers and others participated to witness this historic landmark of the youth of Bangladesh.
Honorable State Minister of MoPEMR, Mr. Nasrul Hamid, Honorable Trustee and Head of Strategy, CRI Mr. Radwan Mujib Siddiq, Managing Director of Microsoft Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan and Laos Sonia Bashir Kabir jeweled the Judging seats. The top 20 teams from 2018’s Internship pitched their ideas and business plans.
Microsoft – Young Bangla Partnership announced the successful completion of the phase-1 of this partnership where 2100 interns are already mobilized throughout the country, 64 tech-hubs are being established in 64 districts, 400 Service engineers enrolled to provide technical repairing support in grassroots throughout the country and 51000 School students are trained with Digital Literacy Program through Sheikh Russell Digital Labs established throughout the country.
Interns shared their experiences while the upcoming initiatives were announced such as: Connecting existing startups beside creating new ones through the internship program. Already some of the renowned startups like Augmedix, Sheba.xyz,E village, Priyoshop and Solshare signed MoU with this platform and many more to come in near future. Respected Authorities from these startups pitched about the opportunities they’re bringing to the Microsoft – Young Bangla Community before official exchange of the MoUs. Already more than 240 youth got the opportunity to get enrolled in Augmedix as a Scribe, where the target is set to create more than 10,000 micro-entrepreneurs throughout the country with Sheba.xyz and prioshop. E village is looking forward to create another 3500 entrepreneurs to support the farmers in grassroots.
Barrister Moin Ghani conducted an amazing Law Tech-Talk session on how innovation can improve the citizen’s life following with the announcement of ‘eculator” a specially designed world’s first ever platform where the Top 5 Startup Award winners will receive both Incubation and Acceleration support with experts mentoring in a single platform. This platform will also provide sharable office space with necessary funding required for the business plan to execute.
Following the speech from respected judges about how they vision of a country where people won’t be looking for jobs, the most awaited results were announced. The Top 5 Microsoft – Young Bangla Startup Awards Winners were: Team Bangla Sign Language (BSL), Team Blaze Warriors, Team Finance Wizards, Team Eco-farmers and Team Gorur Doctor.
Microsoft also recognized the 100 Campus Ambassadors of Young Bangla in 50 Universities throughout the country as Microsoft’s Brand Ambassadors.
This event witnessed the youth changing their own situation with a vision of their own about this country and each with a innovative solution for the real life problems people usually face in our country.
