Protibondhi Kollyan Samiti : Creating a new perception

Protibondhi Kollyan Samiti was formed in 2001 in Mymensingh by 9 physically challenged energetic young enthusiastic proponents who think that they are no less than any normal human. Protibondhi Kollayan Samiti provides physical fitness training to especiallychallenged people along with education.

Their work mainly focuses on children who are physically challenged. They search for such children who cannot go to school due to their physical disability. Protibondhi Kollyan Samiti arrangesadmission in schools and special care for children with physical disabilities and monitorstheir attendance and performance in school regularly. Till now education materials are provided to 211 children, including education stipends for 41 children. Through their activity,they also create awareness in the community to build a friendly atmosphere for physically challenged kids. Their initiatives also ensure to develop the communicationskills of these children.

Protibondhi Kollyan Samiti also has a daycarecenter for these children who receive weekly therapy for the bettermentof health and physical strength. At present there are 223 children is getting this facility from the daycarecenter. This organization also arranges treatment for people who have minor physical or birth defects (e.g. cleft lip). They have provided wheelchairsto 25 paraplegies and white support canes to 120 visually impaired people.

Besides, Protibondhi Kollyan Samiti develops trainingprograms on enhancing employability for physically challenged people. So far 30 got training from this organization who now make handicrafts and sell at the localmarket. They also helped 53 physically challenged people to get jobsin different organizations.

One of their remarkable initiatives is to aware pregnant women about what type of precaution should be taken during pregnancy to avoid any harm to a child. They also discuss existing laws and rights for physically challenged people with the localcommunity.

Young Bangla believes that disability is defined by society not by the body of individuals. Whatever you call them – disabilities or differently abled people, they are not the burden of society. Young Bangla recognized Protibondhi Kollyan Samiti’s outstanding contribution to society and humanity by giving the Joy Bangla Youth Award in 2018 to Nurul Islam (General Secretary, Protibondhi Kollyan Samiti).

At present this organization has 300 beneficiaries and 781 volunteers. Young Bangla strives to empower these courageous youth group and support their remarkable initiatives towards local and national development. The creativity, moral values, determination of these people are no less than a normal human being. With dignity,these young proponents are reforming societyand changing the impression of people towards disability.
