25 Youth Completed Internship at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2021-2022

I have been assigned to collect primary information of 77 Bangladeshi diplomatic missions around the world which was undoubtedly a learning experience for me. – Mehedi Hasan, Intern.

The national youth platform, Young Bangla, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs placed interns under its Youth Employability Programme- YEP. Recently a certification ceremony was arranged by MoFA to deliver the certificate to the intern who has completed this apprenticeship program in the calendar year of 2021 and 2022. Since 2015 around 12500 youth have attained this internship in government ministries and renown private sectors in Bangladesh.. The objective was to engage youth in nation-building, to create the spirit of volunteerism among youth, and to help the youth better understand the functionality of the government agencies.

This year a total two batches of interns received their certification of completion of the internship for the period of three to five months. The certificate giving ceremony for this internship was held on 11th April 2022, at the UNCLOSE Conference Hall at MoFA. 10 interns from the 3rd batch successfully completed the internship program from January to March 2021 and 15 interns from the 4th batch completed their internship from September 2021 to January 2022. One of the interns from the recent batch is still continuing her duties at MoFA to date. Therefore, the interdependency between the service provided by the interns and the offices of MoFA is a result of the successful internship program.

Shahriar Alam, honorable State Minister of Foreign Affairs chaired the event. In his words, “I am absolutely thrilled that my fellow colleagues are finding this internship useful and we are relying on them”. He also added that it’s a commitment of the government and also from CRI as a think tank to promote this idea and spread it to other ministries. Jubaida Auhana Faruque, an intern of the 4th batch shared her experience of working at MoFA, that she could gain practical knowledge of the theoretical studies she obtained from the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies of the University of Dhaka. Another intern from the 3rd batch, Shahan Ahmed thanked Young Bangla, CRI for such a great initiative that has helped him secure funding in a university in the USA.

Throughout the successful engagement of the ‘Vision 2021 Internship’ program since 2015, this year Young Bangla is going to initiate ‘Youth Employability Program (YEP!)’ in 2022 with a view to continuing the initiative of engaging the youth with the government agencies. The recruitment process for the coming batch of internships for the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources is ongoing. Any Bangladeshi youth with the specified qualification for this program are eligible to apply for this internship.
