Amar School

Amar School

Historically, Harijan are a neglected community in the sub-continent. Their fate remained unchanged in the 21th century when everybody is talking about citizen’s right, minority rights. The Harijan youth goes through excruciating experiences growing up in an unforgiving society. Once, Rajesh Bashfore, a Harijan youth, humiliated by some hotel owner for touching food and the incident left a permanent wound in his mind. Rajesh used to work as a cleaner in the capital city. Leaving that job, he went back to Saghata railway Harijan community with firm determination to unite his community and strive for the rights they deserve. Rajesh felt lack of education is the main reason for their unchanged condition and if they want to change their fate, they have to receive quality education. And ‘Amar School’ started its journey in 2015 towards changing the fate of Harijan children. Initially, there was no place for the school  where they can run the academic activities. Some of the Harijan families occasionally let them use spare rooms. Later some philanthropist helped them with a space, a room and some necessary furniture. They provide basic education to the children, distribute educational materials and meal. Despite having no fund or any financial aid, they continued the schooling project and sensitizing the community about the value to education. The dreamers of ‘Amar School’ think that they have a long way to go and that is the spirit. They now have a strong base and vigor to help the community attain education and better living to reduce the gap with the mainstream population.
