Mental health and its treatment are still considered taboo in many societies and communities of Bangladesh. According to National Mental Health Survey Bangladesh 2019, seventeen percent of adults suffer from mental health issues and the number is increasing exponentially. It also says that ninety-two percent of them do not seek medical assistance; and unfortunately, the people who do they do not get access to proper care and treatment. The reason behind this is there are a handful number of psychologists and psychiatrists in Bangladesh and most of them limit their services within Dhaka. Even only two percent of psychology students continue as professionals. To bring change in this scenario, Psycure Organization began contributing to different comprehensive initiatives to educate and mass people aware about mental health. The organization was founded in 2019, and so far, it has provided counseling services to twenty-six hundred people and trained around six thousand youths through various campaigns. Its ‘Spreading Mental Health Awareness’ workshop was performed in thirty-one colleges and universities all over the country with an aim to create advocates for mental health. In addition, the ‘Unwind Mind2021’ campaign offered a creative platform to five hundred youths in the field of art and photography. “There are many negative ideas about mental health in our society, so everyone must come forward and work together. I hope in the upcoming days we will be able to bring a big change in mental health through Young Bangla”- said Murad Ansary, Founder of Psycure Organization.
