With an aim to scout out, develop and scale up new innovations in renewable energy, efforts are underway to launch an extensive open competition in next month among university students across the country.
In October, the event is set to commence with an announcement that would saw Bangladeshi young innovators submit their proposals online and activation events will be held on as many as 50 campuses to attract the students.
The proposal areas include innovative ideas supported by the basic scientific principles covering design, operation and utility aspects of the product in the renewable sector like solar, wind and biogas based energy solutions.
Project submission application will be available online and after a preliminary screening selected projects will be called for a pitching session at Dhaka. Top 30 selected projects will join residential boot camp for grooming and developing the final pitch. Following a rigorous screening process, five to ten propositions are likely to be selected finally by an expert committee for consideration for financial support and execution at the community level. Selected projects will be funded for commercial operation and scale-up for the sustainable business model.
To this end, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is signed today among Centre for Research and Information (CRI), Power Cell, Power Division, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MoPEMR) and Green Delta Insurance Company Limited at CRI office.
The MoU signing comes in the backdrop of promoting innovation in sustainable & renewable energy which may solve power & energy challenges of the marginal group of the country. At the signing ceremony, Hon’ble State Minister to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MoPEMR) and Trustee of CRI Nasrul Hamid; Mohammad Hossain, Director-General, Power Cell, Power Division, MoPEMR; Farzanah Chowdhury, Chartered Insurer, Managing Director & CEO, Green Delta Insurance Company Limited; and Sabbir Bin Shams, Executive Director, Centre for Research and Information (CRI) were present.
As part of the MoU, hundred local entrepreneurs, in addition to the idea hunt competition, will be selected from different parts of the country, who will be provided with technical, strategic and logistics support to roll out an easily scalable and implementable energy production solution (with no geographic dependency).
