People with special need demand enormous amount of time, energy and money, and above all, love and care. Youths in the country came forward to building a more inclusive and compassionate society by taking care of such people. A simulacrum of this vision is Social Welfare Institute, established in 2016, working for the neurodevelopment for specially challenged people through therapy like physio, music, speech, and language. Manas Kanti Saha, a director of the institute, has been working on this mission over 2.5 years.
The organization conducts various programs for ameliorating education and living standards of specially challenged people. The objectives of Social Welfare Institute are to actively work in the areas of health, agriculture, and education and to take necessary initiatives to mitigate environmental hazards in their community.
Their recent activities mostly cover elementary education for children with special needs. As a small organization, Social Welfare Institute is leaving no stone unturned to the kids with the best possible support.
In most cases, children with special needs are still observed as a scourge in the country. When a physically challenged child is raised in a large family, its parents often face stigma. That’s why Manas Kanti Saha also started providing support and knowledge to the parents. Therefore, along with their other regular activities for children, Social Welfare Institute also arranges different types of seminars and workshops to educate parents.
At present, Social Welfare Institute is conducting regular meetings with child development therapists, child psychologists, speech and language therapists, and psychiatrists for monitoring the children admitted to their institute. This organization also provides vocational training to make specially challenged children self-reliant. A total of 155 volunteers are currently serving Social Welfare Institute, which has so far benefitted 450 children.
Social Welfare Institute wants to develop a day-care center for children with special needs. They want to provide the best for these children’s physical and emotional growth and thus create indoor and outdoor activity facilities. Their remarkable contribution to the children of their community earned the organization Joy Bangla Youth Award in 2018.
