Let there be a sports arena for all, there will be an open platform for sports, the development of talent, and professional para-sports will establish themselves in the mainstream of society, through all types of wheelchair-based sports, the world will know Bangladesh in a new way – for that purpose, work for physically challenged sportsmen and sportsmen from April 27, 2018, Starting with Bangladesh Wheelchair Sports Foundation (BWSF). BWSF was founded by Noor Nahyan, a wheelchair athlete, with a group of university students. BWSF is committed to working with 24 international-level para-sports. BWSF has 60 para-athletes from all over Bangladesh. The para athletes registration process is going on. Besides this, BWSF is working to form district-wise committees to conduct district-wise activities. BWSF is also registered as the representative of Bangladesh in ‘World Para Darts’.
BWSF has organized ‘Online Wheelchair Chess Tournament 2020’, ‘Wheelchair Sports Tournament 2020’ and ‘2nd Online Wheelchair Chess Tournament 2020’ with already registered para-athletes.
On the occasion of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary and International Day of Disabled Persons 2020, BWSF organized the ‘Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Wheelchair Sports Carnival 2020’ with 25 registered wheelchair athletes from all over Bangladesh. Wheelchair Badminton Championship, Wheelchair Darts Championship and the first Indoor Wheelchair Cricket Championship were held at the carnival. In the ‘2nd National Para-Badminton Tournament 2021’ organized by Bangladesh Para Badminton Federation, 19 para shuttlers of the foundation participated in five categories.
Even during the Covid 19 pandemic, this organization organized 24-hour telemedicine services for disabled people across Bangladesh, provided food and financial assistance to the needy and disabled people through district-based organizers and volunteers, distributed books and provided wheelchairs to the students of Shaheed Matin Special Education Academy in Khairati village of Ishwarganj Upazila, Mymensingh. by doing
The organization is also working to ensure the technical skills and participation of persons with disabilities in the ICT sector to develop them as skilled manpower. Organized ‘Online Instagram Marketing Course’ for registered para-athletes. Where 14 registered para athletes participated in this workshop for 12 days in 3 phases. BWSF is also providing lifestyle aids to regularly registered players and publishing an irregular small paper ‘Mann Pawaner Nao’ to highlight the life stories of people with disabilities. About the organization, Noor Nahian said, “Our mission is to raise the Bangladesh flag through our para-athletes at the Paralympics as well as all international sports events and ensure the participation of disabled people in the development of Bangladesh by making our physically challenged people self-reliant.” Noor Nahian was diagnosed with spinal AVM in 2008 when she was in ninth grade at St. Gregory’s High School. The wheelchair became his constant companion. With his strong love for sports and the empowerment of disabled people, he started activities in sports for disabled people along with studying in a wheelchair. He successfully served as club president of the university’s sports club for two consecutive terms while pursuing honours in East West University’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering. He is pursuing Masters in Development Studies at BRAC Institute of Governance and Development. He is serving as the founder and president of the Bangladesh Wheelchair Sports Foundation.
